Cypress Mandela Training Center has been honored with the following awards and recognition:
- In 1999 the program received recognition for excellence in workforce preparation from the National Association of Counties (NACO).
- In 2000, the program received the Civil Rights Partnership Award from the United States Department of Transportation’s Federal Highway Administration for outstanding efforts in bringing more minorities and women into the construction trades.
- In 2004 the Training Center received the Comprehensive Apprenticeship Self-Sufficiency Entrepreneurship (CASE) award from the Federal Housing Authority for its unique partnership and training provided for the Contra Costa Housing Authority. This entailed training the residents of the projects in construction skills to enable them to refurbish the residential units.
- In April of 2006 the Cypress Mandela Training Center was one of three nationwide programs to receive the Exemplary Public Interest Contribution (EPIC) Award from the United States Department of Labor’s Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs. This award was presented by the United States Secretary of Labor Elaine Chao, in recognition of innovative workplace programs that increase equal employment opportunity in the workforce.
